Locked Bosch MG1/MD1 ECUs no longer have to leave the workshop for every supported unlock job. OBDSTAR ECU MASTER now brings bench unlocking to selected protected MG1/MD1 ECUs, letting technicians unlock locally and move straight into read, edit and write work.
From Sending ECUs Away to Unlocking Them In-House
Since around 2020, stronger Bosch protection on MG1 and MD1 ECUs has made the calibration area inaccessible to conventional programming. For many locked units, the workaround was simple but inconvenient: remove the ECU, send it to an overseas unlock service, wait for its return, and only then start the actual programming work.
OBDSTAR is changing that workflow for supported ECUs.
| Feature / Step | Traditional Unlocking | OBDSTAR ECU MASTER |
|---|---|---|
| Remove ECU | ✓ | ✓ |
| Unlocking | Send to external service | Unlock on the bench |
| Shipping | Required | Not required |
| Waiting | Several days may be needed | Continue locally |
| Programming | After ECU returns | Unlock → Read → Edit → Write |
| Workshop control | Dependent on outside service | Handled in-house |
5 Reasons the Update Matters
- Unlock Protected Bosch ECUs
Access selected MG1/MD1 ECUs that previously required an external unlock service before read/write work. - Keep the Job in the Workshop
Unlock the supported ECU on the bench instead of shipping the module overseas and waiting for it to come back. - Cut Shipping & Downtime
Reduce the extra logistics, turnaround time and vehicle downtime associated with outsourced unlocking. - Unlock More Programming Possibilities
Once the protected memory is accessible, supported units can move into read, edit and write work for tuning and applicable ECU replacement or cloning jobs. - Coverage Is Already Rolling Out
OBDSTAR currently supports 32 brand and ECU combinations, with additional MG1/MD1 applications already announced for upcoming releases.
The value is simple: ECU MASTER brings Bosch MG1/MD1 unlocking closer to the technician—turning an outsourced step into an in-house bench operation for supported ECUs.
OBDSTAR is continuing to expand coverage through software updates. Always verify the exact ECU part number before scheduling an unlock job.
